Brit accused of 53 sex offences spanning 44 years
A British fugitive accused of dozens of sex crimes spanning 44 years has been arrested in Spain.
Police say the man had taken refuge in Almeria in the south-east of the country but was discovered thanks to a joint operation between the Spanish national police and the British Crime Agency.
He is accused of 53 crimes of a sexual nature committed between 1956 and the year 2000, all involving members of the same extended family. Most are believed to be male and were aged between five and 16 at the time of the alleged offences.
A police spokesman said: “The facts for which the fugitive was sought cover a period of time of more than 40 years. Approximately between the year 1956 and 2000, he is accused of multiple aggre-ssions and sexual abuse. In particular he is charged with a total of 53 crimes of a sexual nature.”
“The location and detention of the fugitive has been possible thanks to the close collaboration between the National Police and the British NCA through its links in Spain. The British citizen was arrested in the vicinity of his home in Albox (Almería).”
The Brit has been placed in the hands of the court.
