Two natural pools will be “dream come true” for Arrecife

Lanzarote and the Port Authority intends to connect the capital with the sea with two natural pools, a transit walkway and a recreational and nautical-sports leisure area in the port of Arrecife.

The two natural swimming pools will include one adapted for people with reduced mobility and another with Olympic measurements for swimming,.

President Pedro San Ginés said: “It is an open door from the city to the sea, with use and public access for the entire population and will be endowed with areas of recreation and sports with accessibility for all people, children , elderly, athletes and people with reduced mobility, with solarium and parking areas, among other services. “

The work is expected within two years and will embellish one of the entrance doors to Arrecife where more than 400,000 cruise passengers arrive.

 Sr. Ginés described this project as “a dream for the city of Arrecife” and said it would be added to the other developments such as an urban park, Museum of the Sea and the research centre for marine flora and fauna and cetaceans.

“Lanzarote has spent many years working in the positioning of the island as a tourist destination and in that context, the Cabildo plans to carry out a global project of seven natural pools with Olympic dimensions for the seven municipalities,” he revealed.

Financing must still be studied by the Cabildo but it is expected to be co-financed with part of the FDCAN Funds of the Government of the Canary Islands.

The Olympic pool, for use by people with knowledge of average swimming, will have dimensions of 50 x 30 ml, with an area of 1,850 m2 of action surface. It will be accessed by a jetty from the solarium area to water level.

The second pool will have dimensions of 50.50 ml x 47.50 ml, with an area of ??2,600 m2 of action surface.
