New website for Spanish Government brings major improvements
The Government of Spain has launched a new design for its website and made it fully adaptive and responsive.
The new, more attractive and modern image adapts to all electronic devices and improves access to all content for anyone, especially the elderly and those with disability or limited ability due to certain circumstances. So far this year, the website at www.lamoncloa.gob.eshas received 5,058,895 visitors, 738,707 of which were in October.
This complete and adaptive redesign means that content adapts to the device being used and its size, meaning that certain aspects are optimised for mobile, tablet and traditional computer screens. Changes have also been made to the font and size of the text in order to improve the reading experience. The new La Moncloa website has smaller pages, which brings a sub-stantial browsing improvement as it reduces page response and display times while optimising mobile telephony data use.
The La Moncloa website already met the accessibility requirements for the websites of public administration services, with a score of 9.16 points. That score will be consolidated with this new design. Accessibility is an essential feature for guaran-teeing the principle of equal opportunities, and is gradually becoming broadly recognised as an improvement in the quality of life for all. From a populational standpoint, accessibility is essential for 10%, necessary for 40% and comfortable for 100%.
The La Moncloa website is available in Spanish and English, and some of its static content is also available in Catalan, Galician, Basque and Valencian. The website pro-vides information on the government agenda, activity by the President of the Govern-ment and the ministerial departments, and a summary on the Council of Ministers meeting; the latter and the home page being the most popular among visitors. A total of 1,645 press releases have been published on the website so far this year, 225 in October alone.
The site, www.lamonclo-a.gob.es offers the chance to receive a weekly news bulletin. This bulletin has more than 6,000 subscribers and also provides access from any part of the website to the various government social media profiles, such as @desdelamon-cloa on Twitter, which offers useful information to the public such as the latest measures adopted by the Government of Spain, grants, subsidies or financial aid and other actions, recommendations and activities of general interest.
