Man in four metre pier plunge

A 38-year-old man escaped more serious injury after falling from a height of four metres in Gran Canaria.

The man suffered head injuries but medics said they were of a “moderate” nature.

The accident happened at the Nelson Mandela Pier in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria in the early afternoon.

Rescuers were called in, including the Canary Emer-gency Service, Port Authority and Civil Guard.

The 112 service was told the man had fallen from some sort of platform docked in the pier.

He was treated at the scene before being taken to hospital.
