Let the games begin for 600 school-children!
The Mini-Olympics of Los Realejos have got underway with about 600 schoolchildren from ten educational centres.
The Basilio Labrador Sports Complex hosted the inaugural ceremony and basketball, handball and volleyball competition. Swimming will also take place in the Municipal Pool and athletics in the Iván Ramallo Stadium.
Councillors of education, Sandra Pérez, and of sports, Benito Dévora, participated in the opening ceremony welcoming the schoolchildren, thanking the involvement of the educational centres and the work of the municipal sports technicians and sports monitors of the various schools who each year act as referees or assistant staff.
The mayor of Los Realejos, Manuel Domínguez said the Olympics were a unique opportunity and “one that should make us proud as capital of sports of the Canary Islands and as a Child Friendly City with a mention of national excellence “.
In the volleyball modality, the CEIP La Montañeta triumphed, winning the final 28-15 at the Nazareth College. In the modality of handball, the Pureza de María School was defeated 9-7 to the CEIP LaMontañeta. The Pureza de María School in basketball repeated success after winning 21-2 at Colegio Nazaret.
