Four arrested as pólice break up counterfeit sportswear operation
National Police, in collaboration with the Customs Surveillance Service, has dismantled a criminal organisation dedicated to the sale of counterfeit sportswear in the Canaries and has intervened more than 1,100 garments with a market value of 110,000 euros .
This was announced by the Police General Directorate, which adds that, in particular, on the island of Gran Canaria , they have arrested two Chinese citizens, Z.J. and J.C.; and in Tenerife, two Spaniards, G.G.A. and A.R.H.
The investigation began at the beginning of 2018 when an increase in sales of sportswear was detected through unusual channels, such as profiles in social networks.
Likewise, it was possible to identify the people that were behind these profiles, which later led to the location of the facilities where the counterfeit clothing was offered for sale in Telde (Gran Canaria).
The organisation, which adopted important security measures to prevent the location of its facilities, distributed garments from this Gran Canaria municipality.
Meanwhile, the distribution of fake garments to potential buyers was made directly by the alleged authors of the facts, arranging an appointment to deliver the items in person at a point previously agreed with the buyer.
The police intervention, which culminated in the clarification of the facts and the arrest and imputation of the alleged ones involved, made it possible to recover the 1,100 garments valued at 110,000 euros.
Finally, once the corres-ponding police officer was instructed, along with the detainees, he was referred to the competent Judicial Authority.
