Guia de Isora hosts new swimming challenge
Guia de Isora is the place to be if you want to watch a new swimming spectacular on April 28th.
The event is the “Copa Canaria de Aguas Abiertas” (“Canaries Open Waters Cup”) and has been organised by the Isora Swim Club in collaboration with the local council.
There will be various modalities and some pro-minent swimmers are ex-pected (entries closed on April 13th).
The presentation of the event was attended by sports councillor José Rivero, vice president of the Canary Federation of Swimming, Dona Elena Méndez, director of the Canaria de Aguas Abiertas, Daniel Reyes, the AECC Manager Carlota Cobo and the president of the Isora Swi-mming Club Alex Socas.
The initiative will be scored for the Canary Islands Cup.
The swim will take place in the waters of the coast of Playa de San Juan, Barranco de Erques and Playa de Abama and will have several routes (dis-tances of 6,500 metres, 2,500 metres and 300 metres plus 150 metres for children).
The test will feature prominent swimmers, such as the paralympic triathlete Toni Franco and the paralympic swimmer Mi-chelle Alonso. Also the specialist in great distances Juan Carlos Báez; Betuel González; Santi Fariña; the brothers Ledman of Gran Canaria; the local swimmer Jorge Gonzále and the swimmer Erika Rivero de Fuerteventura.
Councillor for sports, José Rivero thanked the swimming club’s involve-ment in bringing Guía de Isora into the open water championship.Club president, Alex Socas, highlighted the value of this solidarity initiative and recalled the goal of sport as a stimulus to effort and personal improvement.
The prizes will consist of trophies made by users of the occupational centre Guía de Isora located in Playa de San Juan. Start time is 12 noon.
