Tougher approach to abandoned cars
La Laguna is to take a tougher approach over the problem of abandoned vehicles.
The local council has repealed its existing regulations in favour of a new one which allows the classification of such cars as “solid waste”.
Councillor for Public Safety, Jonathan Dominguez said this would streamline procedures and lead for a speedier removal of the offending vehicles.
The previous rules were introduced in 2015 but the new ordinance has just come into force.
It regulates the procedures for abandoned vehicles, particularly in terms of location, complaint, procedure for its removal and, where appropriate, delivery to the corresponding decontamination centre.
The new ordinance will be applied in all public roads of the municipal area and adjacent lands of public or private domain. Vehicles will be considered abandoned if let for more than a month.
