Melania makes history in surfing world
La Laguna’s Melania Suarez has made history in the World Surf League championship.
Competing in Portugal, she was proclaimed champion of the first test of the prestigious European Junior Surfing Circuit.
The tournament featured the best European surfers up to the age of 18.
At just 14, Melania becomes the first Canarian to win a competition of this circuit.
“I did well, even though the conditions were hard due to the wind. It was quite difficult. I did not know I had won until I got to the beach because you can not hear anything with the wind, “said Melania who lives in Punta del Hidalgo.
She is backed by La Laguna council, RipCurl, Matta shapes, Ocean & Earth Canarias, Fitenia, SeventyOne percent, Health & Sport Canarias and La Bajeta club.
