Blue lines cause parking confusion in Icod de los Vinos
Icod de los Vinos is not getting parking meters but a new system of free zones has been introduced, says the local council.
The authority has started the installation of new areas in the main commercial roads of the municipality to facilitate the rotation of the parking spaces.
Complying with the ordi-nance approved in 2017, the Department of Public Safety has clarifiedf that the painting of the blue marks and the signalling of the same does not correspond to the so-called “Blue Zone” but to the application of a municipal ordinance that allows the parking of vehicles during one hour in commercial hours without economic cost. Local Police will only punish drivers who stay more than 60 minutes with their cars parked in these areas.
Councillor for Public Safety and Police, José María Polegre explains that “in the confusion generated by the blue paint, it must be emphasised that no parking meters will be installed nor will other measures be applied corres-ponding to the regulations that govern the” Blue Zone “; it is not a collection measure, given that our idea is to favour the rotation of parking spaces during business hours.”
Painting and signage will be completed shortly in the nine areas that have been deter-mined, among which are the Príncipes de España Avenue, Chincanayros Avenue and San Agustín Avenue, among others.
