Police officer saves man in distress in sea
A local policeman became the hero when a man got into trouble in the water near rocks in Santiago del Teide.
He dived into the sea and managed to keep the man in distress away from the danger area until the emergency services arrived and brought both of them back to safety.
The 28-year-old Frenchman was unhurt.
The incident happened at the coastal area outside the natural pools of Tancón in the late morning.
Maritime rescue was alerted, together with the local police, the Civil Guard and the Canary Emergency Service.
The 112 control centre had received a call reporting that they had seen someone in distress in the water outside the natural pools.
Those who raised the alarm were told to warn the man in the water to stay away from the rocks.
A police officer from Santiago del Teide jumped into the sea and kept the man safe until other rescuers arrived and they were picked up by the rescue boat.
Both men were transferred to the port of Los Gigantes but neither needed medical treatment.
