Brave Raul wins hearts across Tenerife
Generous-spirited communities across Tenerife have opened their hearts to support the family of an eight year old boy battling cancer.
The plight of Romanian born Raul Panescu was highlighted by the recently formed charity Fighting Against Cancer Tenerife (FACT), a volunteer group providing support for sufferers and their carers.
And now Polly and Nigel Pinfield from the Club House Palm Mar opened their doors to stage a fundraising event and additionally raised funds for Raul and his family during the day.
They were backed by entertainers and a raffle filled with sparkling prizes donated by businesses and kind hearted locals.
Moira Dixon who launched FACT explained: “Polly and Nigel were having a golf day in memory of Ian Ross, who although he didn’t die of any cancer-related illness, was a much loved and respected man of their community.”
“Proceeds of the tourna-ment will go to help Raul and his family too. We’ve been overwhelmed by the 100 per cent support from everyone helping us.”
Early last year, Raul was traumatised after breaking his arm and later on holiday he was diagnosed with Neuroblastoma Stage 4.
Said Moira:”This was absolutely devastating news. The doctors told Raul’s parents this could have been caused by the trauma he felt about his arm.
“He started on chemo-therapy immediately in Berlin and to date he has had pioneering stem cell treatment using his own blood, but sadly, this was unsuccessful. “
” He underwent major surgery just before Christmas lasting nine hours, and, thankfully, he has huge cour-age and pulled through.
“The next step for this little hero is more chemotherapy and stem cell treatment. The funds we will raise will go towards expenses incurred by the family.”
