Late-night terror on TF-5
A car travelling in the wrong direction brought late-night terror to the TF-5 motorway in the north of Tenerife.
The horrifying incident also left five people injured, including an eight-year-old child.
The so-called “kamikaze” caused at least three crashes, one of them a head-on collision on a curve at El Sauzal.
A full investigation is underway to determine whe-ther the driver knew what he was doing, whether he was under the influence of alcohol or drugs or simply went the wrong way by mistake.
The accidents on Sunday night prompted massive traffic jams in the area on the north highway in the direction of Puerto de la Cruz.
The emergency services received a string of calls after the man was seen driving in the wrong direction.
Two of the cars are believed to have crashed after swerving to get out of the way. Fire-fighters were called out to free some of the occupants.
The five people injured included the driver of the car which travelled in the wrong direction. All are believed to be out of danger.
