Excitement in Puerto at annual gala
More than 300 people enjoyed a night of excitement as Puerto de la Cruz honoured achievements in sport at a local level.
The 2017 sports gala was held in the Andromeda room of the Lago Martiánez and saw awards presented to the best individual athletes and teams. All agreed it was a very exciting two hours with lots of emotional highs with rewards for effort, perseverance and success.
The sports career prize went to Enzo Cherubino Priano, Roberto Hernández Illada and Manuel González Galindo.
The triathlete Ricardo Hernández Marrero and the volleyball player Beatriz Se Silva Rodríguez López were honoured as best athletes in the individual category.
The organisation also wanted to reward and recognise the work of entities and people who have made a significant contribution to Puerto’s sport. In this way, the Punta Brava Runners Club was awarded the prize for sportsmanship. The best sporting event award went to the Infinity Xtreme test and the prize for sports career to Club Natación Martiánez. In the company and sport award category, Loro Parque was honoured whilst the media award went to Mi Tierra TV.
After the awards granted by the organising committee, the presenter of the gala, José Luis Román, read the minutes of the jury that rewarded the teams and individual athletes in the categories of promising and senior. The prize for the best male promise team went to U.B. Puerto Cruz. In the prize for the best female promise team, the winners were the C.N. Martiánez cadete C. In the categories of best athletes, the winners were: Sergio Acosta Reyes and Esther Santoyo Oramas, in the disciplines of rescue and lifesaving and rhythmic gymnastics, respectively.
In the senior category, the prize for the best team fell to the Tenerife Marlins Puerto de la Cruz baseball. The winners of the best male and female athlete were the triathlete Ricardo Hernández Marrero, who could not attend due to commitments with sponsors, and the volleyball player Beatriz Se Silva Rodríguez López, respectively.
Sports councillor Javier Gonzalez took to the floor with words of thanks for all those who practise sport and praised their effort, dedication and sacrifice on a day to day basis.
The Mayor, Lope Afonso echoed these words and the great season enjoyed in Puerto which had served to place the municipality at the forefront of sport in Tenerife and Spain.
