Another top award for Loro Parque as sustainability recognised
Loro Parque has received the “Best Sustainable Tourism Practice” award from Tenerife Cabildo.
The award recognises its environmental actions and is a public acknowledgement of its continued commitment to sustainability.
This is carried out on a daily basis through different actions, such as the creation of its own photovoltaic plant, which stops the emission of more than 2,000 tons of CO2 into the atmosphere ; the reuse of the prunings of the palm trees within the complex; the conversion into compost of all organic waste from restaurants and the supply of gardens, animals and restaurants with their own crops, among other initiatives.
This year, 2017, was declared the “International Year of Sustainable Tourism” at the initiative of the United Nations with the aim of raising awareness among decision-makers and the general public of the contribution of sustainable tourism to development, in turn mobilising all groups of interest to work together and make tourism an engine of positive change.
In Tenerife, the Cabildo, through Turismo de Tenerife and other areas, programm-ed the implementation of numerous sustainable actions in collaboration with other public administrations and private companies. Since 2015, the island has been involved in a series of actions related to the respect and conservation of nature that were born with the vocation to endure over time.
In the next six months, Loro Parque and the rest of the awarded companies will appear in a prominent section on the Tenerife Tourism website, as well as in other communication channels of the dependent entity of the Cabildo.
