New Lions sign is a beacon of hope

This is the centenary year, 100 years for Lions International and we have been 33 years here in Arona in Los Cristianos.

Although a small in number club, we are very active with providing children’s holidays especially the handicapped and under privileged. This is the 22nd year we will be taking a group of 30 from Tenerife and bringing a group, some from Poland and some from the UK, to enjoy the sunshine here in Los Cristianos and Las Americas.

We have just this week supported the initiation and renovation of a hostel for ten homeless persons in El Fraile which will provide food, toilet and showering facilities along with safe sleeping accommodation.

Our club actively works in close co-operation with the social services department in Arona with many different projects. These have become more critical due to the financial cutbacks in local government grants and expenditure. Supporting under privileged children here in our community is one of our main priorities.

We thank you Mr Mayor for recognising our valuable work in this community by allowing us to put up a sign which is a beacon of hope and will be recognised by people from all over the world when they holiday here in Tenerife. They will know that Lions are active and support local people in our community.

Our worldwide motto is “We Serve”. Our club motto is “We are the people that help people”

Thank you for your support…
