Ambulance location is “useless” for all of La Gomera
La Gomera is pressing the Canary Government to find a different central location for the new medicalised ambulance in a bid to provide a better service.
Cabildo president Casimiro Curbelo says it makes no sense for the urgently needed vehicle to be based in San Sebastian when it would take an hour to go across the mountains to reach emergencies on the other side, such as in Valle Gran Rey.
He also points out the base for the ambulance is only two minutes away from the urgency service so it makes even less sense. Sr. Curbelo is bringing the issue to the attention of the Canary Government and hopes there will be a change of mind over the location with speed.
“It does not make sense that this advanced sanitary support has its base two minutes from the services of urgency in San Sebastián since the logical thing is that it is located in the middle, in a strategic point like Chipude that would guarantee the coverage of the service in all the population centres,” he says.
“The medicalised ambulance would take an hour to reach nuclei with a high density of population such as Valle Gran Rey or Vallehermoso.”
He also claimed the current site fails to comply with the agreement adopted unanimously by La Gomera Cabildo which requested the Ministry of Health of the regional government that the vehicle operated 24 hours from Chipude. He urged the change of location to be made as soon as possible because the current one does not meet the real needs of La Gomera, an island with a rugged terrain, in which the communication of the capital with the rest of the towns can take several hours of travel.
