Animals, including 23 dogs, found in filthy conditions
Police raided a rural finca in Fuerteventura after receiving a tip-off about the mistreatment of animals.
Nature protection officers with Seprona, the environmental arm of the Civil Guard, took away 23 dogs, together with five horses and a donkey.
They were all taken to sites where they could be properly cared for.
A man was arrested on suspicion of animal abuse by keeping them in poor conditions on the farm in Casillas del Angel in the municipality of Puerto del Rosario.
The investigation began after Seprona received a complaint from a local resident.
Police went to the site and found the grounds “filled with excrement”. Several of the animals also had open wounds with bleeding.
A vet from the local authority was called in who confirmed the conditions were not satisfactory.
