Teenager killed by train as he took selfie by line

A 13-year-old boy died after being struck by a train whilst trying to take a “farewell” selfie before going off to study at a different school.

Police say the youngster was with a group of friends when he decided to take one last photo of himself by the train tracks.

His former schoolmates escaped in time but he was unable to get out of the way of a train thundering down the tracks and was killed. His body was stuck on the line for some time before the emergency services were able to remove it.

The fatal accident happened in the Pepino district of Toledo, Spain on the day children were going back to school after the long summer break. The 13-year-old and his friends were hanging around the bridge area of the railway line which serves the Madrid-Extremadura service.

His mates were back on the bridge when, according to sources, the youngster decided to go back down to the track and take one final selfie to post on the social networks. He was due to start his first day at a new school and wanted a special memory.

Taking selfies on train tracks and posting them online is said to be a growing and worrying trend for the authorities.

The Mayor of Pepino, Inocencio Gil said the whole town was totatlly shocked by the tragedy.
