Warning after speeding drivers caught in Santa Cruz
The Local Police of Santa Cruz have collaborated once again with the national campaign promoted by the General Directorate of Traffic aimed at controlling the speed of the vehicles in the different roads of the country.
Specifically, the radar service of the Atestados group verified, on August 21st and 25th, the speed at which a total of 5,535 vehicles circulated, detecting a total of 194 violators, 3.5 per cent of the total of the tests made.
The first deputy mayor and councillor for citizen security and mobility, Zaida González said the objective of these campaigns, “as well as the programmed controls that are usually done, is to promote greater road safety and an awareness among drivers about the risk of speeding.”
He stressed that the campaign was not about tax collection “although obviously the sanctions for this type of dangerous behaviour at the wheel are processed and reported in time and form.”
One trend which came to light is that 61 per cent of the drivers sanctioned for breaching the regulations skipped the limits during the night time.
One driver was caught speeding the tunnel of Tres de Mayo Avenue at 112 kilometres per hour; another was detected at 101 km / h on the San Andrés dual carriageway; and another was clocked at 98 kilometres per hour on the Hespérides avenue.
