San Juan de la Rambla is counting down to the 2017 Milla del Fuego
Organisers are expecting the participation ofa hundred runners in a test in the historic centre that seeks to strengthen athletics and attract tourists.
“The Milla del Fuego Villa of San Juan de la Rambla is a race with a double objective: on the one hand to promote athletics as an alternative sport considering that the municipality is the cradle of champions within this doctrine and on the other hand to put in value the patrimonial richness of the historic quarter from a tourist perspective,” said a council spokesman.
An organisational meeting was attended by sports councillor Priscila Díaz, tourism councillor Cayetano Silva and the resident José Hernández, a laureate athlete who has several gold medals as champion of Spain.
Saturday afternoon September 23rd was set as the date to celebrate the test respecting last year’s route, which uses the main artery of the centre, Jose Antonio Avenue, for a circuit of 1609 metres crossing the main buildings BIC.
Registration will be open up until 20 minutes before the race.
Participants will be divided into eleven age groups, ranging from the Smurfs (born in 2012) to veterans B (past 60 years). The prizes will vary depending on the category, receiving medal in all cases and prizes in cash for the top positions. The registration price is fixed between one and three euros.
The Milla del Fuego gets its name from the traditional events of San Juan de la Rambla including the Risco, Resonar del Bucio and Fiesta del Humo.
