Puerto confirms summer carnival will become an annual event
Puerto de la Cruz is already planning the third edition of its new Summer Carnival which also helps to turn the spotlight on the main event in February 2018.
More than 15,000 people turned out over the three days of the event, after which local officials confirmed there would definitely be a third.
Music, colour and carnival rhythm filled the streets and everything went without a hitch, with police reporting no incidents.
Puerto’s Mayor, Lope Afonso said they were analysing all the good things about the summer carnival and those which needed to be improved “but we have no doubt that we are going to have many editions of this new Carnival.”
“As in every show, the public is the judge of whether this continues or ends. Watching the enthusiasm, and listening to their applause, there is no other assessment: there will be a new edition in which they will participate and enjoy and if they come in fancy dress, then all the better.”
Tourism councillor, Dimple Melwani, valued the event from the tourist point of view, calling it “success” .
She said part of the aftermath was to discuss how the third edition in the summer of 2018 could be part of special tourism packages.
This new edition also served to turn the spotlight on recycling and respect for the environment as was done in the first edition, with the installation of a clean point that rewarded recycling with the delivery of gifts.
