Lucky escape after ravine plunge

A driver had a miracle escape when his car plunged nearly 200ft down a ravine in Fuerteventura.

The Russian man, aged about 60, was trapped in his vehicle and had to be freed by the fire brigade.

However, he suffered injuries described as “moderate” in what could have easily been a fatal accident.

The 112 emergency service received a call to say a car which had been travelling along a road in Morro Jable in the municipality of Pájara had plummeted 70 metres.

After being released from the wreckage, he was picked up by the emergency helicopter because of the difficult terrain and taken to hospital.
