Icod de los Vinos backs north hospital plea
The Government group of Icod de los Vinos is pressing for a full-time pediatric care service at the north hospital.
The council says it is vital in view of the high demand and nearly 25,000 children in the region.
“There is an imperative need to have a pediatric service at the Hospital del Norte, located in Buen Paso, at night time and with pediatric care during the 24 hours on weekends,” said a spokesman.
“The health of the youngest cannot be guaranteed with only the pediatric service of the Health Centre of Icod, which serves Monday through Friday, so the presence of a pediatri-cian and a pediatric nursing service is essential throughout the week in the Hospital of the north.”
Carmen Gonzalez said this demand was echoed throughout the low island region and many residents had approached the council directly to press for an urgent solution.
“This situation can no longer be delayed and has already been raised by mayors of other municipalities in the region,” she said.
“We as the local govern-ment have had to respond to the concerns of hundreds of citizens who deserve attention with all conditions.”
