Drowning in El Médano
A 66-year-old German man has drowned in Tenerife.
The tragedy happened at the beach of La Tejita in El Médano. A lifeguard managed to get to the man who was unconscious in the sea after reportedly being struck by a wave.
He was in cardiac arrest and prolonged efforts were made to revive him, including by the rescuer and then by medics, but without success.
The 112 emergency service was alerted to the incident just ater 2pm and sent the police, SUC team and Civil Guard to the scene.
In Lanzarote, a 70-year-old man was rescued from the water off the beach of Playa Honda in San Bartolomé.
He was in an unconscious state when brought back to the beach with symptoms of near drowning but was revived and rushed to hospital. His condition at the time was described as serious.
