Divers cleaning seabed shocked to find lorry batteries
Santa Cruz city council, through the Foundation Santa Cruz Sostenible, carried out cleaning of the seabed at Las Teresitas beach on a recent Sunday morning.
A group of professional divers volunteered to develop these tasks that are carried out periodically in the aforementioned area of the coast of the capital with the aim of keeping it in the best possible conditions.
Among them was the accidental Mayor and councillor of citizen security, Zaida González, who did not hesitate to dive with other colleagues to collaborate in carrying out this action in favour of the marine environment of the capital.
Councillor for environment, Carlos Correa, thanked the efforts made by these enthusiastic advocates of nature and lamented that, despite the awareness campaigns carried out, “divers found on the seabed a large number of cans, containers , plastic bottles and even two truck batteries, which are highly polluting elements in the aquatic environment, thrown by unscrupulous people.”
Likewise, he wanted to record the collaboration provided by the personnel who coordinated this action from the ground, as well as the Volunteer Group of Civil Protection of Santa Cruz de Tenerife and Náutica Nivaria, which provided the vessels so that the transfer of waste to the shore was much more effective.
