Work begins on site of scientific interest

Los Realejos is celebrating the beginning of the rehabilitation of the path of Barranco de Ruiz.

It is classified as a Site of Scientific Interest and Special Conservation Area and had an action plan drawn up by the Cabildo in February 2015.

The mayor of Los Realejos, Manuel Domínguez, said that “at last the green light is given from the island corporation to the execution with the entrustment of the works and the beginning of the works.”

He said it was inad-missable that two years had elapsed before such an important area was tackled and the risk to its future that the time lapse had entailed.

The project will include new signposting, clearance of all evasive plants, improving accessibility and dealing with erosion.

This Site of Scientific Interest is located between Los Realejos and San Juan de la Rambla.
