Annual romeria draws the crowds
The annual romeria of La Esperanza in El Rosario is alive and well as demonstrated when a huge crowd of thousands of people turned up to celebrate the event.
The festival is now in its 43rd year and is as popular as ever, being a “must” for lovers of traditions.
All eyes were looking up to the sky at the start of the day and luckily, it stayed warm and dry with a nice breeze which tempered the thermometer. All that was left was to enjoy the party.
The procession, as always, invited “pilgrims” to take part on a route which is relatively easy for all. There were nearly a dozen decorated carts, folk and dance groups, parrandas, boats and seven flocks of sheep and goats.
Thousands watched on, including from their balconies, as revellers enjoyed food and drink. From the late afternoon, there was dancing to live bands.
