Rare bird rescued by firemen
Firemen called in to put out a stubble blaze found themselves rescuing a rare bird.
The crew from La Laguna was dealing with the incident along the San Diego road in the municipality when they noticed a martinete in trouble.
They found it had a damaged wing and it was later transferred to the island’s “La Tahonilla” wildlife recovery centre.
The presence of these birds in the Canaries is scarce, hence the importance of the rescue carried out by the firemen who with this action demonstrate their sensitivity to the fauna of the environment.
