There was drama in the south of Gran Canaria when police were alerted to the discovery of 50 sticks of dynamite!

They were found in a room next to a well by a group of men who were working nearby.

Explosive experts from the Civil Guard were called in and confirmed the dynamite was in “an evident state of deterioration”.

The dynamite was destroyed in a controlled way by fire.

The incident happened in Tirajana and an investigation is underway to find out how they got there and why.

Las Palmas police has issued an alert, reminding people that the abandonment of explosives is a very serious offence which could lead to a fine of up to 30,000 euros.

They recommend that any citizen finding cartridges of this type do not handle them, but immediately move away from the area, warn the security forces or 112 and watch that no one else approaches.
