Cocaine found hidden inside birthday cakes!
Police in Spain have busted a drug trafficking gang which smuggled cocaine hidden inside birthday cakes!
Eight people have been arrested in Valencia as part of an operation codenamed “Entrepa” .
The drug runners sand-wiched packets of cocaine inside layers of cakes which were then decorated with sweets.
Drugs squad officers found the hidden stash inside the birthday cakes when they were cut open.
Members of the Spanish Civil Guard started the investigation following a tip-off. Raids were carried out on three properties in the Valencian district of Cullera when items seized included 2,500 grams of cocaine, 150 grams of marijuana, 250 grams of hashish, 6,000 euros and three vehicles.
“Two of the eight arrested carried out retail sales of drugs in the area,” said a police spokesman. “They used a third person to act as a human mule and transport the cocaine, disguised as birthday cakes, on a public service bus from Madrid to Cullera.”
To make sure the cakes reached their destination, another member of the gang followed the bus in a car.
The eight people arrested are six men and two women of Spanish and Colombian nationalities. They face charges of crimes against public health (drug trafficking), usurpation of civil status, falsification of documents, breaching road security and membership of a criminal organisation.
During the raids, police also seized drug cutting equipment, weighing scales, a list of debtors, taser guns, ammunition, balaclavas and handcuffs.
