Moving on up at Wingate School
Year 6 Junior School students at Wingate School recently participated in a transition morning in preparation for their move up to Senior School in September. During the morning they learned about their new timetable and the different subjects they will study. They had the chance to work in groups to discuss what changes there might be and how their normal school day in Senior School will be different from Juniors.
Senior prefects spent time with the students giving them firsthand experience of life as a Senior School student. Prefects led guided tours around the school so that the students could meet staff and see the specialist rooms and subject teaching rooms that they will study in next year.
The overall aim of the morning was to ensure that their transition into the Senior School is a smooth and enjoyable experience for them. Mr Peter Fazackerley; Deputy Head Teacher, explained that moving up from Juniors into Seniors is a massive and sometimes daunting step for the students. “We want to make sure that we fully support the students with any worries or concerns they might have as they prepare for the next chapter of their learning journey at Wingate,” he said.
Earlier in the day the Year 6 Parents and Guardians were invited in to school to discuss how Wingate uses technology and the Google Classroom in Senior School to enhance teaching and learning.
