Major challenge for firefighters in factory blaze
Firefighters were called out to deal with a blaze in a tobacco factory in Santa Cruz.
The fire broke out in the property in calle Juan Ravina Méndez and was attended by two crews from the city and La Laguna.
“The fire originated in one of the filters of extraction of the tobacco dust that was in the roof of the factory,” a fire brigade spokesman explained.
“The filter was of considerable dimensions and each filter has in its interior more than 100 slats that had to be removed one by one to be able to cool and to suffocate the possible embers that remained in the interior.” Staff inside the factory had to be evicted as the fire brigade successfully managed to contain the flames
