Helicopter rescues injured hiker

The emergency helicopter was called in to rescue a hiker who suffered a fall in Gran Canaria.

The incident happened in the Barramco de Gauyedra in Agaete in the mid-afternoon.

The 112 emergency control centre received a call to report that a 56-year-old woman needed help after a fall in the ravine.

Rescuers included the police, both local and national, the Civil Guard, emergency rescue group and medics.

The helicopter was needed because of the difficult location. She was evacuated to the heliport at the hospital for treatment to a lower leg injury but doctors said it was not serious.
