Gang smuggled drugs inside children’s Drácula pop-up Books!
Police have busted two criminal gangs who smuggled drugs into Brazil inside children’s Dracula books.
Bags of speed and hashish were hidden amongst the pop-up horror figures and under-neath the pages in a bid to foil customs officials.
Five people have so far been arrested and two others are being interviewed in connection with the drug-running which operated between Spain and Brazil.
Three are from Romania, three from Spain and one from Argentina.
Police said one assignment of books destined for Brazil was intercepted at Barcelona airport. Bags containing a white powder substance were found in the Dracula characters and once tested, was found to be amphetamines and hash.
More drugs were discovered during raids on two properties in Spain, together with a marijuana plantation in a former nursing home.
“The gang had installed air conditioning systems, smoke extractors, humidity sensors, transformers, heat lamps and material to accelerate plant growth and increase produc-tion, with the intention of producing some 2,500 marijuana plants,” said a spokesman for the Spanish Civil Guard.
“They had also illegally connected to the electricity supply, using around 30,000 euro worth fraudulently.”
Police also seized computer equipment, false notes and two guns.
