Puerto offers sites for new police station

Meetings are taking place to decide the way forward for a new police station to serve Puerto de la Cruz and Los Realejos.

Puerto council says it is imperative to have a new base as the existing facilities are outdated. The authority has offered to provide land so the project can go ahead.

The most recent meeting was attended by the Govern-ment Subdelegate in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Guillermo Díaz Guerra; the Mayor of Los Realejos, Manuel Domín-guez; the Mayor of Puerto de la Cruz, Lope Afonso; the Provincial Commissioner of the National Police of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Ignacio Bádenas; councillor for security and institutional relations of Puerto de la Cruz, Pedro González; Commis-sioner of the National Police of Puerto de la Cruz – Los Realejos, José Luis Rodríguez Martínez; and the Head of the Local Police of Puerto de la Cruz, Francisco Gómez.

The meeting saw Puerto council repeating its pledge to give an appropriate site. The different possibilities to choose the most suitable will be studied, while ensuring that it is operational as soon as possible.

The meeting also served to confirm the good relation-ship and collaboration between the National Police Corps and the Local Police.

All present agreed on the need to continue offering police services in line with the importance of the two northern municipalities.

The parties also highlighted the low crime rates registered in the scope of action of the National Police, despite the large number of visitors received each year by the tourist city, which means that the destination is perceived by its visitors as a safe tourist destination.
