New-look and roundabout for Avenida Maritima
Tenerife Cabildo and Santiago del Teide council are investing nearly one million euros in the remodelling of the Avenida Marítima between Punta Negra and La Gaviota.
The local council is providing 700,000 euros towards the total cost, with the Cabildo making up the remainder.
The works, which have a term of execution of nine months, will cover an area of 5,319 square metres of this important tourist route, a performance that will be divided into two phases to facilitate the development of work. These are part of the Programme of Strategy and Regeneration of the Tourism Space included in the Strategic Framework for Insular Development (MEDI) -FDCAN.
The planned project contemplates the improvement and redefinition of a great stretch of avenida Marítima and its intersection with calle Alfonso Ferrer where a roundabout will be installed to facilitate the circulation of traffic. It will also affect the connections of the main road with Punta Negra and Ana María.
“The works included in the project will improve the characteristics of the urban spaces and the environment, will contribute to reduce the speed of the cars in the main road and will complete a circuit that will be very attractive for a tourist walk,” said a council spokesman.
“It will be completed with the improvement of the sidewalks and the pedestrian zone, the integration of the apartments in the road, landscaping of the whole environment and installation of new urban furniture and lights.”
