Campaign continues to make El Rincón a special place in La Orotava
La Orotava has pledged to continue its campaign to improve and enhance the special zone of El Rincon.
Projects planned for the future include conditioning of Playa de los Patos, improving the irrigation network, school visits to farms and a new logo for the area to provide it with its own identity.
The campaign is being led by the Consortium of El Rincón which was revived in 2014 after 13 years.
For 2017, it will have a budget of 550,000 euros, which consists of 150,000 euros from the Canary Government, 300,000 euros from Tenerife Cabildo and 100,000 euros from La Orotava council.
“Progress has been made in the process of protection and promotion of this natural site located in the municipality of La Orotava, which has had a Special Protection Plan since 1999,” said a council spokes-man.
The priority has been to improve the environment and the agricultural nature of the area.
Specifically, the last session defined the priorities for the investments to be made this year. Representatives of the three public administrations listened to the proposals of residents, owners and ecologists, as well as evaluating the results of the citizen participation days called “El Rincón que Queremos”, held recently and in which all the attendees were able to discuss and propose different actions to be taken in the area.
The Mayor of La Orotava, Francisco Linares, said highlights of 2017 would include special paving of the access road to the Bollullo Beach, as well as the pave-ment of some roads and the installation of street lighting in the Camino La Cisterna, a sector that lacks sufficient and adequate lighting.
It was also agreed to start work on the implementation of some projects such as the rehabilitation of access to the beach of Bollullo with the widening of the road in the narrower sections, in addition to enabling an adequate space at the end of the road: “Everything with the aim of improving traffic and ensuring the safety of public transport, ” said the Mayor.
In addition to the 550,000 euros, there is also a specific item for the conditioning of Playa de los Patos, a project still awaiting the approval of Spain’s Coastal department. Once this is obtained, the work will be retendered for a value of 300,000 euros, which will be paid in full by the Cabildo and included in its programme of action for this year “Tenerife and the Sea”.
