Leading UK organist to perform in concert
Leading UK organist Simon Johnson will start the “Organ in concert” cycle at the Auditorium Alfredo Kraus in Gran Canaria.
The concert will be on February 26th at 12.30pm in the Symphony Hall at the Las Palmas venue.
He will perform works by Bach, Byrd, Stanford, Thalben-Ball and Reubke, as well as works composed by him-self.
Simon Johnson is an award-winning organist and assistant director of Music at St. Paul’s Cathedral in London and is hailed as one of the most versatile musi-cians in religious music. He was described by Gramophone magazine as “a brilliant and sensitive musician who achieves greatness through a quiet performance.”
The concert, with the collaboration of the Philharmonic Society of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, will last approximately one hour.
The music of the Auditorio Alfredo Kraus organ surrounds the public, while enjoying a privileged view of the Atlantic Ocean. The instrument was inaugurated on October 21, 1999, and since then more than 50 organists have participated in this cycle.
The next concerts will feature Mar Tejadas on March 12th; Jürgen Essl on April 9th ; and Léon Berben on May 21st.
