Benidorm set for two million euro filming bonanza
The biggest fan of the hit TV series “Benidorm” has been revealed as….Benidorm itself!
Tourism chiefs say they are thrilled that filming for the tenth season is to start this week in the Alicante resort.
The Mayor, Toni Pérez says the cult programme is one of the best promotions that Benidorm could hope for as it is aimed at its biggest market, the Brits.
And he estimates that the nine episodes of the tenth series will bring an economic impact of around two million euros.
In February alone, the capital of Costa Blanca received 35,000 more British visitors than a year ago.
The first episode of the ninth series proved the most watched show of the day with an audience share of 23.5 per cent.
Pere Agulló of “Filming Spain” said: “We are very happy to be on air for the tenth season and will be promoting the outer regions of Benidorm, as well as the centre if it so fits.”
He added: “It’s number ten and it’s going to be something special!”
Film crews have started to arrive in the resort in preparation for the filming which starts on March 14th and is seen as a tourist attraction in itself.
Two streets are being taken over for the production company up until July 20th.
“The presence of cameras, lights, actors and the crew will once again be an added attraction for residents and visitors,” said the Mayor.
