Double donations at sixth Llano del Camello race
Around 400 runners participated in the sixth Llano del Camello popular race.
This sports activity managed to raise money and non-perishable food to help families with limited resources.
The Mayor, Arturo González and councillor for sports, Víctor Chinea emphasised that this race counts each year with a greater involvement of residents inside and outside the municipality.
Competitors gathered in the centre of San Miguel de Abona for a 10am start with the departure of more than 200 children enrolled. Then it was the turn of the adults, who ran the 6.4 kilometres of the circuit designed by the organisation.
This initiative is promoted by San Miguel council with the collaboration of Trivalle Güímar and Restaurante Gula.
“The event has a clear solidarity objective and the involvement of residents and neighbours outside our municipality is greater every year,” said Sr. González.
As well as the collection of non-perishable food items, registration fees meant that the money raised will be used to buy different products that will be shared, like food, among families with limited resources.
“In turn, the activity seeks to promote and raise awareness about the importance of healthy habits because it favours improving the quality of life,” conclude both municipal leaders..
