Shock as severed head found in runnish
Police launched an investigation after shocked workers at a waste disposal site found a severed head amongst the rubbish.
It is believed the victim was a man of around 40 years of age, who had red hair and the start of a beard.
Officers believe he was not Spanish but a foreign visitor to the country. Early indications suggest he was killed just a few weeks ago.
His head, in the early stages of decomposition, was hacked off with a sharp instrument before it was thrown out with the waste.
An investigation is now underway to try and find out his identity and a search has been going on all day to see if there are any other body parts on the tip.
The grisly find was made on the Costa Blanca at a treatment plant in Elche, a busy city in Alicante.
The plant deals with mountains of rubbish from the surrounding area of Elche, Aspe, Monovar and Hondon de los Frailes, as well as the busy tourist resort of Torrevieja.
