Details revealed of fantastic new swimming challenge in Los Gigantes
The longest ever swimming challenge is to be held in Tenerife on August 21st and entries are already being invited.
Details of this first-time event have just been announced by Santiago del Teide, with the cliffs of Los Gigantes acting as the focal point.
The swim is to be known as the “Murallas del Infierno” and is all set to create a tremendous amount of interest.
There will be three distances. One of 1.5km which will both start and finish at the beach of Los Guois in Los Gigantes; a 6.5km test which will start on the lovely beach of Masca and end also at Los Guois; and the 18km challenge which will link Punta de Teno with Los Gigantes.
Registration has already opened on www.deportesantiagodelteide.com and places are limited for each race. The fee depends on how early you get your entry in.
Registration will close, for all distances, on August 1.
Councillor for sport, Guillermo Evora said the event would be marked by many novelties, not least the long route which was the greatest distance of any swim so far on Tenerife and the setting of Los Gigantes cliffs.
There will be a solidarity flavour as one euro per entry will be donated to charitable causes.
There will be a full safety operation and the plaza Buganvilla of Los Gigantes will host the award ceremony and final party.
