El Médano becomes a bay of the best kayaking 


El Médano successfully hosted the 25th Canary Sea Kayak Championships.

The event was organised by the Argonautas del Médano sports club with the co-operation of Granadilla council through its sports department and the Canary Islands’ Canoe Federation.

Nine Canary clubs took part, fielding 105 paddlers and there were races of three and nine kilometres.

Winners included Ignacio Soler Fabre, Esteban Medina Ojeda, Chloé Bunnett, Antonio González García, Sergio Martín, Luis Alfredo Antunez, Pablo ST Mary, Paula Suárez Hidalgo, Alejandro Quesda, Jorge Enríquez Gutiérrez, Paula Ruiz, Daniel García, Nicolás Andrés Barboza, Davinia Figueroa Sosa and for the clubs, Amigos de Piragüismo de Gran Canaria in first followed by San Andrés de Tenerife, Real Club Náutico de Gran Canaria and Argonautas de Tenerife.

Councillor for sport, Nacho Mendoza congratulated the organisers and highlighted the great success of the event which turned the bay of El Medano into the epicentre of the best kayaking.

“Without doubt, an unrivalled sporting event and a tourist attraction for the Grandilla coast,” said the sports chief.
