Warning! Don’t park in disabled bays
Santa Cruz has warned drivers coming to the city that they will be fined if they park illegally in spaces allocated for the disabled.
Police are stepping up their checks and will also be verifying disabled parking permits which, they say, are often used fraudulently.
The city council believes there should be a greater awareness about the difficulties faced by the disabled and that more respect should be shown to them.
As well as detection and punishment, the police will be distributing leaflets published by the Society for the Promotion of Persons with Disabilities (SINPROMI).
There are 664 parking spaces for the disabled across the city.
