DNA dog mess testing!

Dear Editor

I was interested to read in the UK news that a town in the south of England is clamping down on dog mess by doing DNA tests on the excrement.

Not the nicest of jobs but effective, that’s for sure! Perhaps it’s something Tenerife should consider because in my view, and in the opinion of others, the dog mess situation just isn’t getting any better on the island.

We were in Los Cristianos the other day and parked our car near Iceland and opposite the restaurants.

Rather than walk into the road, we had to cross to the pavement by walking over the gravel verge and it was quite frankly disgusting. You really had to watch where you were putting your feet because the piles of dog mess only left a few places safe to step on. How horrible and how off-putting when you are going to buy food or have a meal. Yuck!

It seems that dog mess is one of those proverbial issues which comes up on a regular basis. Everyone talks about it, does something about it, there are police warnings etc etc etc, things get better and then it all is forgotten and eventually starts all over again.
