Artedental welcomes Saharan younsters in a “priceless” experience
These happy scenes show what the pioneering business of Artedental in Puerto de la Cruz has always advocated – that going to the dentist does not have to be feared!
The lovely pictures, full of smiles, happiness and fun, were taken when children from the Western Sahara visited the dental clinic as part of holiday activities.
The youngsters have been spending the summer months in Tenerife as part of a unique programme.
For a while, they could live a normal life, be part of a family, eat healthier and enjoy Canary food, make friends, learn Spanish and many other things we might generally take for granted but are so special to these children.
Many of them have never before visited a dentist or visited a dental clinic.
Artedental and the Puerto team were very happy to collaborate with the programme organisers and to welcome the boys and girls for both a fun and informative visit, as well as a practical one.
They consider it vital that dental hygiene and awareness begins at an early age.
The children enjoyed their fun and different excursion, testing instruments, sitting in the dental chair and pushing just one button to move it….things that for us, don’t pose a wonder but for them, it does.
Surprisingly these children had a very good oral hygiene, compared with children of similar ages in the Western world. Only in a few cases, Dr. Daniel Rodriguez had to do some treatment.
The young visitors were also given tips on cleaning and looking after their teeth.
Dr. Rodriguez said it was hugely satisfying to see the children with their big smiles and curiosity, describing the whole experience as priceless. And who knows, he added, some of them might even be inspired to join the dental profession in years to come.
