Marijuana packages were sent from Spain to UK
An eight-month long investigation has resulted in police breaking up a major drug trafficking gang which cultivated cannabis in Spain and sent it to the UK and Switzerland.
Officers had been tipped off about the existence of a marijuana plant somewhere in Mijas and in the early stages of their enquiries, a house was raided and 871 plants seized.
It then came to light that the operation was just part of a much larger network and eight people have been arrested for their alleged involvement. They include a 68-year-old man who looked after the various plantations and another person who was in charge of electrical installations.
The arrests were made in Malaga and Marbella and seven properties were raided. Two luxury cars were seized, together with 10,000 euros in cash, a bank note counting machine, several computers and various effects and equipment for the cultivation and processing of marijuana.
During the investigation, the ringleader was followed as he drove to an industrial estate in Benalmádena and picked up a package containing 51 packets of marijuana, with a total weight of 51 kilos, which contained a UK postal address.
