Santa Cruz offers special prices to take part in 2015 Marathon
The second edition of the International Marathon of Santa Cruz de Tenerife is to be held on Sunday, November 15th.
The Mayor, José Manuel Bermúdez presented details of the sporting event, which is consolidated on the calendar after the great success of last year. He was accompanied by sports councillor, Zósimo Darias; test director, César Dorta; and President of the Canary Athletics Federation, Alberto Hernández.
Sr. Bermudez said last year’s organisation of the first marathon had been “a big challenge for the city” but it had proved a great success, both in terms of logistics and the number of people who took part.
It is hoped to increase the number of runners from the 2,500 of 2014 to 4,000.
Zósimo Darias said it would be the biggest sporting eent hosted by the city and would involve an interesting street circuit, plans for which had already been approved.
This year, there will be three categories: marathon (42 km), half marathon (21) and an eight kilometre race, all on the circuit approved by the Royal Spanish Athletics Federation.
The different tests will begin at 9am on Sunday November 15th. Entries for the competition can be formalised through the official website of the race at www.maratondetenerife.com, having opened on March 16th.
Until August 31, there are special prices ie 12 euros (8 kms); 27 euros (21 kms) and 35 euros (42 kms). This goes up from September 1st to 17 euros (8 kms), 37 euros (21 kms) and 45 euros (42 kms).
However, race organiser César Dorta said these prices were still the cheapest for any Spanish marathon.

All the routes will be fully policed by stewards and first aiders with refreshment points. There will be prizes and trophies in the various categories, the only requi-rement for participation is that you should be 18 years of age.
