Pretty Pooches, the dog grooming salon where pets are family!

My beautiful picture

Free collection service and appointments to suit the client.

The new owners of the Pretty Pooches dog grooming salon in Adeje followed their dream to move from London to Tenerife to take over the business six months ago.

Now settled in with their own three dogs, Mark and Lyn should make a huge success of their venture as they offer everything the discerning dog owner wants and needs.

Compassion, understanding, an affinity with animals, a totally professional service, flexible appointments to suit the customer and even a free delivery and collection service in the south of the island. What more could you possibly want!

Back in the UK, Mark and Lyn used to run a pub but have always loved animals. At one stage, they had 13 dogs because one of their much-loved pets gave birth to ten gorgeous puppies!

Like many people who come to live in Tenerife on a permanent basis, they fell in love with the island during regular holidays here.

Pretty Pooches must have been waiting for them as they weren’t sure what sort of business they would like but stumbled across an advertisement for the salon. They realised they knew the owners so Mark came over and bought it!

Before completing the move to Tenerife, Lyn underwent extensive professional training in dog grooming and is now fully qualified.

Lyn does the grooming but she and Mark are very much a team and love their new life here and it’s now all systems go for the business which is ready and waiting to help all dog owners….or those with cats and even rabbits. In fact, as Mark jokes, “anything with fur!”

Pretty Pooches is in the Las Torres area of Adeje (that’s not the old village of Adeje but just a little further down the motorway off exit 59 towards the area where all the big businesses are and just a few yards from the Guardia Civil head-quarters by the roundabout).

Please do phone for directions because it is actually easy to find once you know and there is invariably parking outside. However, you might like to take advantage of the free collection and delivery service they offer as Mark drives the fully safety-equiped Poochmobile.

Even more helpful is the fact that you can make an appointment totally to suit your timetable. All you have to do is to phone them on 922 775 219.

Mark and Lyn aim to have the salon open Monday to Friday between 10am until about 2pm but should you find it closed if you are a casual caller, just ring them as they only live five minutes away.

Otherwise, phone them to discuss when you would like to make an appointment. It can be in the morning, afternoon or evening and on a Saturday or a Sunday. Nothing is too much trouble for Pretty Pooches which has as its slogan: “We treat your furry friends as family.”

That is the very essence of this caring business. Mark and Lyn realise how precious pets are to their owners and that their dogs (and the owners themselves come to that!) might be nervous about sending them for pampering.

However, there is no need to worry. Mark says he has always had a total affinity with dogs and can even “whisper” to them.

“They just seem to understand,” he says.

Dogs are very happy here and great care is taken with them. An appointment for a full grooming, which includes nail clipping, might take an hour and a half but that is because Lyn does it properly. She is quite a perfectionist. They also like to give older dogs a bit of a rest in the middle of the appointment so it might take half an hour longer but this is evidence of how much they care and understand.

Appointments can be for full grooming or just a trim or perhaps just for nail cutting. The recommendation is to have your dog groomed every six to eight weeks and it’s very important in such a hot country.

The dogs look beautiful afterwards and there is often a total transformation as you can see from the pictures on their Facebook site. Just like a person, a haircut can take years off a dog as well!

Pretty Pooches deals with dogs of all shapes and sizes and welcomes clients of all nationalities. Details are kept of what the owners ask for and like so that your dog can be cut and groomed exactly to your choice.

With new equipment and a soon to be redecorated salon, Mark and Lyn are waiting to hear from you and hope you will become regular clients.
